In Case You Didn't Know

There's some who remember

this season seems to have a way

of bringing old memories to life.

Things change, life passes

but we never forget.

The hectic preparations..

The all night wrapping...

The decorating...

In case you didn't know

I miss all of it.

I still see it all in my mind

the twinkling lights on the house

the projects being "worked" on

for Santa's arrival.

In case you didn't know

It was fun..

Even in the midst of the stress and worry

still finding time to laugh, even if it was

silly tired laughter.

In case you didn't know

I loved it.

The Christmas eve when we both

heard the sleigh bells ringing and

immediatley looked up in the sky

half expecting to see flying reindeer

instead of realizing it was the bells

on Gena's baby shoes.

Had I told you what a magical night that was?

In case you didn't know

It was.

You were our Santa all year long

you were there, in the trenches

doing the little and sometimes

unnoticed things , did we ever

tell you we did notice, and we do

remember?

In case you didn't know

we all did.

Christmas gifts come and go

but your greatest gift to me was

teaching me that love didn't mean

everything always being perfect

but it meant that even when they weren't

we always find our way back.

In case you didn't know

I'll never forget that.

Your greatest gifts to the kids

I see everday, they use them

wisely and well in their respect

for each other, and being there

for others that may need something.

I see it in the way they value what is

really important.

You would be proud, and..

they remember too.

So as Christmas comes once more

and our memories come to mind

in our hearts.
